Detail map in infobox

I just read an article about the new Google Transfer Beta
(http://www.google.com/transit).

In that application it seems, they are using Google Maps as mapping
software.

The interesting thing ist, they use a detail map within the infobox.

Can that be done with the Google Map API and if so how?
