Consider this scenario: Google gets NUKED. That would kind of make the
accessing of your email somewhat difficult.

Obviously, that was meant as sarcasm. The simple fact is that any mail,
when stored on a remote site, is prone to tampering. That is just a
simple fact of life. No system built today is totally hacker proof.

Google does not support, at least as far as I can determine, PGP or
S/MIME encryption, etc. If Google really wanted to make its mail program
truly user friendly, it would adopt the IMAP protocol versus the POP3
protocol it is now utilizing.

One last note; any user, whether it he/she runs a single stand alone
machine or a complex. multi OS based LAN, should have a comprehensive
backup plan in place. If they do not, and disaster strikes, then they
are getting exactly what they deserve.
