[Google-Desktop] Problem indexing Nokia VMG files

Hello!

I'm trying to get GDS to index VMG files - these are plain text files
that store the contents and some meta-data for text messages
received/sent on Nokia phones that are then transferred using the Nokia
PC Suite software to the PC.

I've included an example one at:

www.tompagenet.co.uk/example

(I've edited the originating phone number for privacy reasons)

I tried indexing this by installing Advanced GDS Toolbox:

http://desktop.google.com/plugins/i/advancedtoolbox.html

and adding VMG to the list of plain text files, but I got nothing -
when I specifically searched for VMG files they were all there, but
with no contents. So I removed Advanced GDS toolbox and installed the
Larry any text file indexer:

http://desktop.google.com/plugins/i/indexitall.html

and added VMG to the list of files - this does index them, but only the
first character (which is always a capital B)! Not much use! I tried
changing the extension to .TXT so that GDS itself would index the
files, but no change - just a single B again!

I think this is due to the odd way the files are structured - they open
fine in Notepad, but Crimson Editor just gives a single B - looking at
the files in a hex editor shows that every second character is an 00 -
is this a unicode formation?

If I open one of the files in notepad and then save the file (with or
without making changes) then the file is correctly indexed - the 00
remain, but an additional two hex pairs are added to the file: FF and
FE. Any explanation for this, and any simple solution that allows me to
leave the VMG files as they are, but have them wholly indexed by GDS?

Many, many thanks for any help!
