AdWords API "Move" Ad Between Campaigns?
In the current API it looks like (and works like...) you cannot edit
the campaignId. For reasons that are probably too lengthy to get into,
I want to "move" an ad between two campaigns of mine. Is there a good
reason to not let me do that? Currently I am deleting and recreating,
which is incredibly expensive quota-wise (and server-wise to Google)
when I have many keywords and seems totally unnecessary. It also
removes reporting/performance continuity, has to go through the review
process again, gather new CTR data and ranking, etc. all over wanting
to change the campaign.
For instance, an ad with 25 keywords plus creative would be ~1600
quota, rather than 10 to update the ad with a different campaignId.
This clearly doesn't scale when managing thousands of ads (which
reportedly is one of the stated purposes of the API -- though this
quota craziness has me second guessing). There are valid and seemingly
appropriate use cases (given the examples Google talks about with
inventory and other product data) where an you might want to change the
budgeting and targeting rules associated with an ad.
Should this be done another way? Or maybe Google can just allow us to
change the campaign an AdGroup is associated with?
Thanks,
- Jared
Quoting from: http://www.google.com/apis/adwords/
"With the applications created, advertisers and third parties can more
efficiently - and creatively - manage their large AdWords accounts and
campaigns."
Large accounts and a strict quota system... Hmmm...
