Distance Key/Legend Thing ...

How do I add the distance legend to my Google map like on
http://maps.google.com/ ? The thing in the bottom left corner that
says "500mi". Did I miss that part of the documentation? I guess I
don't know how to search for it if I don't know what it's called. LOL.
