Re: UK postcode not recognised in Google map?


Unfortunately, in the UK, there's no legal way to get this data free of
charge. The ordnance survey/royal mail own the data and charge a lot to
buy it. That's why companies have to charge so much for these services
in the UK. I believe in the US the data is totally free and in the
public domain. Google don't like paying for data which is why I guess
they can't offer this service for the UK.

There's two options I believe, code point geocodes (returns a lat/long)
down to the first half of a postcode plus the 1st number of the second
half (so FY14 1 for example). Then there's a really expensive one
called address point that geocodes to within a metre.
