That's what XMaps does in version 1.

If you load a page that uses an XMaps polygon in Firefox and use "view
page info" => "media" you can find the polygon images, and see that they
are generated by calls to the Google Polyline server.

E.g. this one is from the XPolygon example on the XMaps documentation
page.

cH?}oRaCg@sL?}oR&color=255,255,0,140.25&weight=5>

The strategy that XMaps uses to fill an arbitrary polygon by weaving a
GPolyline back and forth is complex and obscure, but however it's done,
the strategy still applies in version 2.
