Email count from XML results

Anybody know how to get the correct email count for a search from the
XML results?
<results count=""> tag resturns the results for all types.

I tried messing around with the "flags=1024" in the query and although
it does return only the emails in the result the count seems to be
giving wierd results. Any thoughts?

Also does anybody know how to open the email in the mail client
directly from the information provided in the XML results?
