Hi RickV,
as written a bit every where on google you certainly know googlebot
respects robots.txt directives.

I don't know more than average on this topic.
However, pure superstition, maniac optimisation, or juste trying to
obtain best conditions, personaly i'd try make my google sitemap the
more easyier than i can for google.

Any feedback or extra info on google mysterious ways welcome off course
! :)
