Re: Google Maps not showing ideal route

The easiest solution is like making ice - water, cold, and time:
Use a different solution for a year or two until Google Maps gets
smarter. Most automated directions use a "friction factor" or "weight"
to steer trips onto main trunks and highways. These models are refined
over time with no input from you. Google's willingness to alter the
model just for you is doubtful...unless you offer to pay them.

The slightly more challenging solution is to set your Google Maps route
endpoint at a nearby highway junction instead of your building (forcing
the directions algorithm to use highway), then code a polyline from the
junction to your building onto the map using the Google Maps API. The
challenging part is that the API doesn't support directions while
Google Local (non-API) doesn't support API polylines. You CAN do it
using unathorized API extensions, but how much time and effort
(including ongoing maintenance - API updates tend to break the
extensions) is it worth?

Also, depending on your company and the types of people driving to your
building, some of the drivers won't find automated directions all that
useful anyway. About half the populations uses landmarks to navigate,
and perceputally recognizes orange gas stations and blue meadows before
street signs ordistances begin to register - they dislike street names
as primary landmarks because that's not how their brains work...and are
more likely to get lost or be annoyed when they arrive at their
destination.

Good luck!
