Are we talking about the same thing here? I am referring to 'forward as
attachment" from my GMail account to another email address; not from a
remote location into GMail.
What I meant was that you said that GMail did not support the concept of forwarding an email as an attachment at all, which it does not. However, it supports the concept of opening a series of emails forwarded as attachments and inserting them into the body of the mail.

I use S/MIME myself (try setting that up in KMail), but that is just a
personal preference. I paid for the certificate, so I might as well use
it.
I was going to, but I decided to go with OpenPGP instead. S/MIME seems to be quite easy to set up in KMail now.
