How long to verify

I've been getting the message:

"Pending verification
The system is currently busy. We will process this verification as soon
as possible. Please check back later for an updated status."

for about a day now. The verify file is in root and the sitemap itself
has been fetched at least twice during the same time period. Does
anyone know the normal time lapse for the verification process?
