[lug] Debian Testing install dated (12/05/05)
System
Dell Inspiron 6000
Celeron M 1.5ghz with Centrino Technology
512 RAM
40GB HDD
All right, I having some issues trying to install Debian onto my
system...unfortunately Ubuntu no longer seems to be fully compatible
with Debian anymore :(. I am unable to upgrade Ubuntu to Debian
Testing or Unstable (it is unable to install xbase-clients, and xlibs
without crashing.)
So you ask, why don't I just perform a fresh install of Debian? Well
this is the problem. Debian Stable (Sarge) or (Woody) does not
recognize my hard drive. Plus I would like it to recognize my wireless
NIC. So I do the next best thing, install Debian Testing.
So I run into another issue, Disk 1 of the Testing distro does not
recognize my CD-ROM or does not have the drivers for it. BUT Disk 2
does have the drivers and recognizes. Here is the dilemma, I boot with
Disk 2, but it does not have a Kernal image on the cd. So I am unable
to continue the installation.
What should I do? Is there a way to unmount the cd so that I can take
it out while in that mini shell prompt? mount/umount commands do not
exist on that mini shell. Or should I modify the actual ISO and place
the driver images onto Disk 1 and reburn a copy.
Hope somebody can help.
Thanks,
