Thanks for your replies. Hmmmmm... it seems I am using a mis-fit OS to
begin with !!!! I will definitely give a shot to ubuntu/kubuntu .
Before choosing an alternative to RH9 I did a search on most popular
and user friendly linices (prural of linux ;) ) and I found that
Mandriva 10.1 was the most recommended followed by Fedora Core 4. Since
I faced installation probs. with Mandriva, I started with Fedora.
