Perhaps I am a wimp, but if this were me, I'd:

(a)  Back up the data
(b)  Wipe the hd
(c)  Reinstall the OS's

Unless you're just trying to see whether you can do it w/o data loss...  Even so, if you back up the data and then have a data loss, you can just rebuild it.
