[lug] Re: stupid question about domains

Samba on the server, or NFS are the only things I can think of.
Mounting the filesystems, you can mount the network home directory
right over the local home directory. It kind of hides the local one
until the network one is unmounted. It's an old hacker trick, but shows
the versatility of linux. Example for Samba, on the client in
/etc/fstab:

//linuxserver/%USER /home/%USER smbfs auto

The %USER pulls the the enviroment variable of the user currently
logged in. (This is not tested by me, but it sounds good. Lemme know if
it works)

Make sure you have Samba set up correctly on the server. In theory, it
should work.

I haven't used NFS for a long time, but here is one post I found on
your same question:
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Linux/Linux_Administration/Q_21580372.html

You can do the same local home directory cover-up with NFS as well, but
again, I am not much help with NFS right now.
