Not sure about Google Desktop

I've installed this applications - and removed it - once before. I like
the concept of computer-wide searches. I'm always searching my emails.
The thing is, Outlook DOES have its own built-in search feature. If you
take the same time and effort to use this built-in, already-available
tool as you would to install and use Google Desktop, you would already
have what you're looking for...this is the thought process I've gone
through...therefore I've had some difficulty justifying the additional
memory and processor power required to run all these lovely flashy
dancy things on my desktop. Do I really need to see my pictures and
stocks and weather all the time? No - ofcourse not. When I want to see
the weather, I click on this really handy link on my desktop - I've
labelled it 'weather' for convenience. It takes no additional memory or
processing power to have that icon on my desktop. I wonder how many
resources my computer needs to set aside to show me the weather all the
time with Google Desktop. I understand that I can remove whatever
toolbars I don't want to use - but I think I would probably remove
everything. Even if I did, the thing would still be running in the
background taking up valuable resources. At the end of the day, Windows
already has a built-in search feature which I COULD improve if I chose
to turn on the built-in index feature. Yes, I've disabled this feature,
but I can still do searches. I don't search for files very often, so
the additional seconds that I may have saved doesn't seem like such a
big deal. Speaking of big deals, what's the big deal with Google
Desktop?
