Re: GMap is undefined in IE version 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp1.020828-1920
Here is how I would start to locate the problem:
Close all internet explorer windows.
Visit local.google.com or maps.google.com.
Do they display correctly?
No? Fix this first.
Yes? Proceed to the next step.
Close all Internet Explorer windows.
Visit the Google Map API page:
http://www.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/
Open the first example:
http://www.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/simple.html
Open the other example pages.
Do they display correctly?
No? Fix this first.
Yes? Proceed to the next step.
Close all Internet Explorer windows.
Visit the page you are having problems viewing.
Does it display correctly?
No? Post a link to the problem page to this group, included a good
description of the problem.
Yes? That's great.
Here are some suggestions for reporting a problem on your page:
You will need to provide a detailed description of how you provoke the
problem. The first thing other people will try to do is to reproduce
the problem on their machine. You need to tell us now to do this. We
will not instinctively know what to do when we visit your page. Make
sure you are clear about every link or button we need to press to
recreate the problem. Then make sure to describe the difference between
the expected and actual behavior of the page. Unless your problem is
very similar to a recent thread (less that a week old), start a new
thread for your problem. Instead of adding to the end of a thread that
is several months old, include a link to that older thread in your
post.
And never forget to always attempt to solve the problem yourself. By
the time you post your problem report you should have already searched
this group (and/or Google) for similar problems.
How to "Fix this first"?
When you get failures with the Google Local, Google Maps, or Google Map
API example pages, these usually indicate that there is a problem at
your browser, or the data path leading to it. A description of the
exact failure symtoms is necessary to before I could do anything other
than guess at the problem. Try to determine if anything has changed
since the last time these pages appeared correctly. If there is an
error message, write down the complete exact wording of the message, as
it appears on the screen. (If it is your native language you can also
provide a translation.) You could take a screen shot of the message, or
the incorrect map display. ALT-PrintScreen capies the active window
image to the clipboard. Paste the image into your favorite image editor
(Paint, Irfanview, etc.) and save as a JPG file. Post a link to the
image.
Some of the simple solutions you can try are:
Force a complete page reload with Shift-Refresh or Control-Refresh
(Hold the key while clicking on the Refresh icon).
Clear your browser cache.
Reboot your machine.
Check and remove viruses or other malware, including browser helper
objects.
Check that all recommended windows updates are installed.
When all else fails you could try a more extreme solution:
Install Firefox or Opera, especially if you are developing your own web
pages.
Reinstall or upgrade windows, especially if you have an old version.
Install linux (and never worry about Internet Explorer problems again
<g>).
