You will have to manually add it to your "my sitemaps" account once,
including the URL to the xml file. After that you really don't have to
do anything more. There is a provision to "ping" Google when you have
uploaded a new file, but since Google currently checks the sitemaps
file twice daily, that's good enough for me. My program does the
"ping", but I don't really think it changes much (but if you can do it
automatically, why not). If your site is not something that needs to be
crawled several times daily (ie unless Google already does that; it
won't do it because of the sitemap file alone), then you can just
upload the file to the old location and be certain, that Google will
pick it up.
