There have been other examples of poorly coded sitemaps that appear to
generate the "experiencing a temporary problem" message.
Things that can go wrong with the verification file:
- Copied the file name incorrectly
- Loaded it into the wrong directory (or a password protected
directory)
- Deleted it by mistake
- Deleted it on purpose (it needs to remain there if you want to
continue to see the stats for your site)
- Incorrect file permissions on a non-windows server

If all these things are correct then it has to be an error with
something else or Google.
