Re: New collection of tools using Google Maps
On your main page it states that the 'Location Finder' service will
find "latitude and longitude for anywhere in the world", have you
thoroughly checked how this is working? Or is it only giving correct
Lat/Long over the UK?
For instance, I center the map over my house in Fort Collins, CO, USA
and click your button get the following coordinates: 40° 33' 21" N
106° 52' 21" W
I can tell right away that the longitude is way to large to be correct
(Fort Collins, CO is around 105W). Quickly double-checking with
local.google.com yields the true placement:
http://www.google.com/maps?q=40%C2%B0+33'+21%22+N+106%C2%B0+52'+21%22+W&ll=40.502836,-106.790543&spn=0.438961,0.861053&hl=en
which seems about right (not a bad place to ski either).
I'm thinking you are maybe calculating your longitude coordinates from
the latitude and this varies per latitude. So perhaps it is currently
set to work better around the UK? (a quick check shows that you do
indeed get better matching over the UK)
Just a heads up if you are going to advertise as working across the
world, some people might be getting wrong coordinates.
