site works with firefox but not IE

A site that I am developing:

works well with firefox but I have the following problems with IE:

When I first start up IE, it has SSI errors and doesn't load the map,
or AdSense.

Oddly, when I go to maps.google.com with the same browser window, and
"prime" the window with google stuff, it works fine when I go back to
my beta site. The map loads and Adsense works too.

It works with firefox on startup, so WTF?

Any advice?

BTW, the site is a list of gay bars. MS has a rep for being gay
friendly. I don't get it . . .
