AdWords API Popular search terms from API?

I was looking through the Zeitgeist earlier today and was wondering how
to get these types of stats from the AdWords API. Is it possible, for
example, to get a top 1000 list of search terms ranked by search
frequency over a customisable historical period and grouped by time
interval e.g. day, hour etc?
