equivalent of overlay.display(false) in APIv2 ?

is there a replacement for

overlay.display(false);

in API v2 ?
I need to hide and show a marker, I know I could destroy it, but it
would mean a bunch of coding.

If there is no replacement for it in the new api, anyone know a sneaky
way of making a marker not show and then showing it again ?
