What you post is the same message I received while testing the
procedure.

What I'm saying is that following the link -IF- you are not a gmail
or googlegroups user logged in already, does not lead you to a
page where to request a subscription.

It actually leads to a login page and one -must- login or
register to access the request page. Try to logout from
your gmail and googlegroup account and then follow the
link you just posted. You should see what I mean.

Maybe it's the intended behaviour but it means that
you have to open a googlegroups account not only
to setup/create a googlegroup but also to subscribe to
one via email.

Interestingly, if one gets invited and just follows the link
in the invitation mail, this issue doesn't seem to occur,
which doesn't sound particularly consistent.

Am I clear enough if my description of this issue?

Again, thanks for your help Jim: I'm setting up a couple
of mailing lists for the guests invited to my wedding and
I'm trying to make everything as simple as possible.
Every little help counts when mothers and grand-mothers
in law are involved!!! =D
