[Gmail-Users] Re: gmail suggestions

the intent of this post was to hear comments from enthusiatic gmail
users (which i would define by anyone who spends time at Groups
discussing gmail). i would like to present some ideas but wanted to
sound as knowledgable as possible before doing so. i appreciate all of
the posts, ideas, solutions, and discussion...

comments:

1. sorting by size, subject, name, etc. isnt just useful for finding
information, but also in how you deal with information. i sort (in the
work outlook) by many different things and have emails arrive sometimes
but a particular sort. i love the gmail search and it performs well
post arrival. i do not see a filter capability to have new emails
arrive this way. this one is not huge for me and size would be the best
or at least a search option more advanced than "has attachment"

2. drag and drop would be slick, nothing more. not crucial but sexy.
google would earn a few style points.

3. yeah i totally want an "unlabelled" label or even, an option within
search. to me this is crucial.

5. i understand the arguement for no sub-labels. google is presenting
an entirely new way to handle email. sub-labels might be a legacy idea
for a person with pre-defined notions of how to handle email. i was
suggesting it to appease grandma moses who's not as "up-to-date" and
loves her tradition. again not crucial but could be useful to some if
that is how they want to handle their email. plus if you have 50 labels
your gmail page is going to have be scrolled. for appearance, and how
the eyes handle organization, having sub-labels, you could collapse
them and make your labels less visualizingly daunting,

6. i really want that automatic feature that whomever i email gets puts
into my contacts turned off. some sort of setting for this would be
nice. crucial!

8. i didn't like gds...too memory intensive...seems buggy. i like the
search and panels in it. i have installed gds on several machines and i
have noticed they suffer the same infliction of memory loss due to gds
being a hog. so, for those of us who don't use gds until its less
memory intensive, a one stop calendar, to-do, notes would be cool.
also, even slicker, would be to tie in gds and gmail together that the
gds panel "to do" list would be the same in gds and gmail. also, what
about users who travel? you can't take gds with you...just some
thoughts.

9. importing/exporting to a PST would be cool. exporting as you said
can be done by poping email to outlook then make a pst file. but what i
am after more is importing.

10. i have snippets on and i dig it but sometimes i like the legacy
notion of a preview pane where you can read an entire email. nothing
huge here but like #2 would be sexy and earn style points. it would
just offer the user more personalization.

thanks!
