doesn't this just copy the install disk, and not the configuration of the operating system already installed, or the current progress in installation (which is stored in RAM)?
 
I think this was the LXF or LXM (don't rem which) article on creating custom distros. The way to get this to work would be to, after the # chmod -R -w * line start editing the contents of the folder /mnt/loop to create some custom configuration. This is what I referenced before that it can be done, but needs great knowledge of BASH, GRUB etc. as you will be modifying the install disk rather than the installed distro, which is very different.
