Well Jeremiah, I hope that, as a Father of twins, you have developed
patience with a great grandfather.
I started emacs and, with C-x,C-f, i thought that I had
/etc/X11/xorg.conf. I got a blank screen so I quit and went to VI. I
loaded the file and went to the mouse section where I substituted
/dev/psaux for /dev/mouse. I thought that I saved the change and quit
but when I rebooted the program hangs up. I tried repair and I tried
reinstalling as an update but it hangs at Perl.It may be that it has
written the files so many times that I am out of disk space. This old
thing only has 4gb. The 10.0 file is only supposed to be 2.8 so there
should be plenty of room if it is overwriting. Can I uninstall or wipe
the disk and reinstall from scratch, or is that a bad idea/
Thanks, Joe

You can re-install if you like. If you can boot to a working Live CD, you can change the file back. Live CDs have saved me more than once in my Linux tweaking adventures.
