Hmmm, Larry, thanks. It looks like the characters that require UTF-8,
even though they are outside of the script, are confusing IE's JS
interpreter!
Plus, since I provided them to the server in UTF-8, and specified UTF-8
in the head, I don't know why they would appear as question marks.
rootsweb modified Apache to put their ads on every page. Maybe in
doing that, they broke something.
If I have time, I'll fiddle around on the original server. But I don't
have an IE at home to check it with.
