Re: general http errors vs 404 page not found errors

This happened to me very shortly after submitting a sitemap for the
first time, and I commented on it back then and in several other
places.

Mine (some of which were at least three years old) have now all "rolled
off" the sitemaps error report, so whatever it was turned out to be
transient. But as I said yesterday, the differentiation between
"sitemap" and "link" 404s is very welcome.

What happens when some bozo somewhere mistypes a URL that points into
my domain? Does a 404 turn up for me to puzzle over, without the
slightest idea where it came from?

Normally I'd go to link: search, but that is broken for me. Sometimes
I can find them via Yahoo's link: search.
