Re: Give It A Break
Hi everyone
Thinking of building such an open source map central is the greatest
idea this group can do.
I've had thoughts on this since I started open atlas, but I wanted to
set up a technical structure before presenting anything to the group but
you guys go faster than I can even prepare anything. I have spoken to
some of you by mail about the concept to get some feedback on the idea.
Open Atlas is an Open Source structure with an open architecture. This
means any sort of thematic can be integrated in a pluggin style (this is
functional). All data added in O.A benefit from a time based search
engine and
for the moment only mono criteria but soon multiple criteria searches.
Rigths definitions (public, private, friends) on any point. and of any
Gmap module we add on. SOC Respected so Data is well seperated from the
viewer (Seperation Of Concerns)
So The idea is to be able to integrate every and anyones work done on a
GMaps into a central community driven map structure. Meaning anybody
with his bit of JS as long as its in the pluggable structure could be
plugged into this open source platform and present his work in a
standardised way making this a sort Common GMaps Playground where we all
work togethere on one Project, a kind of "putting it all together".
Representing our numourous efforts around this API.
Everything we have all done is OpenSource allready, so why not start
something that grows from this community (Google API) ? Many of us cross
the same problems, and all work in our own corner. I'm 100% up to
setting up something like this, It's been part of the original
motivation of OA since the begining. The actual structure is a fairly
simple ( in my eyes ), and is just waiting for critique and constructive
refactors. I hope to be soon ready to publish a complete concept of this
but since you were talking about it, It felt like the right moment to
share it with you eventhough a bit early.
Regards
Tibor
