Re: Google needs to take a lesson from Apple on how to do this!
Agree on much of the above. What really gets me is the absolutely
wretched interface, and lack of data about what is in the library. And
most surprisingly? The Search function really, well, sucks! It is
nowhere near as relevant nor accurate as Google itself is. The Product
Managers for this project should be really embarrassed that it went
"live" in this state, beta or not. It should never have been pumped at
CES. It will now take effort to win credibility back from the people
and the press.
The Register published a very critical review that I found echos a
number of my own sentiments:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/01/11/goog_vid_store/ .
And to top it all off, the video I uploaded nearly a week ago, encoded
precisely to their specs, is still "being verified". Frankly, I'm
looking at everything from the interface to the search to the
submission process, and I'm convinced that any decent startup could do
a better job in 30 days time. All that Google has brought to the party
is money, lots of harddrive space, and shame.
