well seeing as mine is the only Communal Mapping BB mod I know of
(apart from a phpBB one that simply lets users put their home location
on a google map, but I don't really count that) then feel free to use
my forum.

GP (My project) is open source, so feel free to jump in and help
develop.

The SF page is https://sourceforge.net/projects/geoforum - you can
download the files there.
GP currently doesn NOT require any edits to the phpbb code and makes NO
CHANGES to existing phpbb tables. You can optionally edit the phpbb
overall_header.tpl file to add a link to GP if you want though.

To try a copy locally I recommend WAMPserver. The included API Key is
for http://localhost/phpbb so if you use that dir it should work out of
the box.

NEEDS MYSQL 4.1 OR GREATER FOR THE GEOSPATIAL EXTENSIONS (Though this
requirement could be coded out, it just makes my life easier at the
moment)
