You might want to search this list for 'site not verified' errors. Wait
for a couple of days - if it is still pending, then make sure you've
created the file that sitemaps asked for and it is accessible and click
verify again. That's what I did when my site was getting 'verification
pending'.

To be entirely sure of what your error page is returning, open a dos
prompt or a unix terminal.

telnet yourserver yourport
GET /invalidpagewhichdoesnotexist HTTP/1.0

press return a couple of times and examine what is returned esp the
headers.
