Ok - i thought that you could only be penalised if you are linking to
them as well ?

Its nigh on impossible to get people to remove links from their site for
you but links on my pages are within my control.

A lot of the links are a few years old so i guess the number of links on
their pages has been growing all the time (.

I am running a link checker at the moment and will check all of the
links on my pages Vs the number of link on the page i reside on and
remove any offenders.

Having said that getting others to remove my links will be nigh on
impossible.

I thank you for helping me out with this.

As a general rue i haven't been checking ther numbers of links on sites
that have been up for a long time ..... only whether or not they link
back and if the home page is cashed. I assumed if the home page has a
recent cashe then the site was unlikely to be in trouble with google -
this used to be a fiar assumption can i take it thia has now changed ?
