The ToU is clearly talking about more than that:

For purposes of the Terms of Use, "Brand Features" shall be defined
as the trade names, trademarks, service marks, logos, domain names,
and other distinctive brand features of each party, respectively

In particular, note that by acceptance of the ToU, Google get rights to
use our brand features as we do to use theirs. That doesn't make any
sense under your interpretation of "brand feature".

Yes. The ToU only allows us to use existing unmodified Google logos,
trademarks and service marks. We don't have a licence to make our own
graphics to represent Google.
