shell access is available with godaddy hosting if you buy virtual
servers or dedicated servers, but just the $3/mo hosting plans don't
include that. You get complete zone control of your domains too, for
free if you host or not, presuming godaddy is your register.

I highly doubt its compedence, considering godaddy is a major company,
its more along the lines at $3/mo (or less) for 5gb of disk space and
250gb of transfer a month, they have to scale back on the box so they
can cram as many accounts on it as possible. The more mods they have
enabled and the more features they let you do the slower the machine
becomes, and possibly less secure. I'm not privy to how many accounts
they have per machine, but my guess is alot. I've never noticed any
performance issues though, but of course I'm not running major sites
on it.
