[lug] Re: SuSE 10
I did exactly the same thing purely out of bordom.
I found that one or two niggles annoyances were solved when I
formatted and installed Suse 10. I can't tell you if these problems
effected everyone (so I don't know if you will see the same benefits)
but particullary I found that stuff doesn't always go into the system
tray and sat as a tiny window on my desktop that really frustrated me.
Anyway I fixed that.
There's a lot of upgrades to existing software I thought and the
experience I slightly better - noticable I would say.
Its not a whole new world of linux but a general improvement I found.
(I upgraded from Suse 9.3 x64 to Suse 10.0 x64 two weeks ago). I'm
sure yast has changed although I can't prove it because I can't
remember.
I would recommend it if you had the time and you could be bothered.
Most distro's give you the choice of either a Lilo or a Grub boot
loader including:
SuSe (I used versions 9.3 and 10.0)
Mandrake (I used versions 7,8 and 10 Ltd Ed)
Fedora Core (I used versions 1 and 4)
Debian (I tried 3.1 but only used it for like 3 days)
Remember your boot loader is seperate from your OS so you can have
your own Lilo boot into any O/S you choose.
Alternatively and this is a good idea - install whatever linux you
want - then put the Suse Disk in and just install the Lilo boot loader
over what ever is currently there - then you got the best of both
worlds!
