I hate to think I wasted a couple of weeks wrestling with UTM
coordinates, odd-ball sized tiles (200x200) & an inverted Y-axis.
Unless Terra-Server maintains a parallel set of tiles, it appears
something is doing the UTM conversion. Google ? Terra-Server ?.
The reason I am using raw tiles is in preparation for off-line use.
Terra-Server is maintained by Microsoft but otherwise it is public
domain. Harvesting tiles for off-line use is not forbidden. Clearly,
not the entire country at every zoom level.
I could see a realtor carrying around a few zipcodes at the maximum
zoom level The original tiles were sampled off the same set of images.
The browser can always rescale the images to lower but not higher
resolution. It is a different application in which I believe tile
stitching makes sense.
