Seriously, it works exactly as explained in my other post. I didn't say
that the few samples delivered to link: SERPs are equally randomized.
For two URLs having the same amount of inbound links the results do
vary. Actually, it would be a surprise if the shown number of links for
those two example pages would be equal. The purpose is, that site
owners and their SEOs shall not be able to gain or even guess useful
information from link: searches.

By the way, even the Google backlink SERPs don't provide more than
1,000 results.
