Nice, though this is likely to be overkill for a fairly static site and
maybe a trifle difficult to maintain.

If you, or anyone else, has interest in a piece of much simpler
code, you can try the one I wrote earlier today:

It is designed to be run from a cron job on a Linux / Unix system
-- though it could be easily adapted to run in real-time on a small
site (ie. less than a couple of thousand pages, depending on the
directory structure.)
