I would not count on the 'item count' from store:yourstorename as being
accurate. My count goes up and down frequently. I started searching
for random products and found that they were actually coming up on the
searches, which is the only place that really counts. Customers are
going to use the command store:yourstorename.

After uploading with unique ID numbers, it took about two days for our
"counts" to settle close to what was actually uploaded. So hang in
there for a couple of days after an upload, do random searches for your
products to verify that they are actually appearing in customer
searches.

Support never actually answered me regarding the unique id issue, they
just thanked me for bringing it to their attention and said they would
look into it. All our feeds are now using unique ids and are doing
much better than before.
