Re: Need details on GEOCODING

Geocoding is the process of turning a textual address or postcode into
a geo-coordinate, most often a latitude/longitude coordinate. This
allows you to plot an address on a map, or find the distance between
two addresses.

There are two main methods to implement geocoding on a website:

1) have a local geocoder, this usually involves taking an address
database and having code that looks up the address in the database and
returns the coordinate

2) use an extenal geocoding service, where your site sends off the
address to this service which simple returns the coordiante. There are
plenty of such geocoders around, search this group, or i beleive there
is list on mapki.com (or there should be ;-)
