Re: Problem with Yahoo Geocities URLs and Sitemaps
Hi Tilly
You need to make sure that Google only indexes one of the two. I assume
you don't have better access on geocities, php scripts are probably
also not possible. The only thing you can do is try to concentrate your
link building on the correct domain... and possibly add a
javascript-test + redirect in your header (but this will only move
human visitors to the right page, but then at least they won't be
tempted to link to the wrong site).
Another possibility would be to move the site to a different free
hoster that would allow php hosting, perhaps "atspace . com", I've set
up a test-site there and it seems to work, php scripts function fine as
well. You could combine that with a free ".be" domain (dns.be) and have
a completely free, full domain site running on the weekend :-). Sounds
better than fighting with Geocities, right? (You can add a meta-refresh
tag with 0 seconds to your geocities homepage to move the
website-crawlers to your new domain)
Gruss!
Johannes
