Nope. It'll get indexed, but it will probably not place as much value in
words in your URL. This isn't any worse than most other sites, however,
so don't get hung up on it.

No, I don't think this directly affected you. I haven't read this
particular recommendation, but I suspect it is due to the "slow and
steady" mentality. You're more likely to have repeat visitors if you
don't answer every possible question they might have on their first
trip. Likewise, if you display 50 pages at once no individual page is
going to be given due attention. People can only absorb so much
information at once, so you might lose otherwise excellent opportunities
for incoming links from people interested in "the next installment" of
your articles.
This is the premise behind most blogs: get your visitors addicted -
coming back regularly - so they are /repeat/ visitors, not just
visitors. RSS feeds, mailing lists, search engines... The entire
industry is about maintaining your existing visitor base and extending
it. Maintaining is the first step, though.
