[glg2] subscription-by-email to restricted group

Hi everybody, newbie here, typing from the UK.

I have created a few groups in the past year as a googlegroups user.
Everything so far has been very intuitive in the typical nice and
simple
google style.

I recently created a couple of restricted googlegroups though,
and the subscription-by-email process does not work as I thought.

Those two groups are set to require my approval before
somebody can join. What I didn't know is that if they
send a mail to

[group]-subscribe@googlegroups.com

to join, their request does not get to me directly, but instead
a message is sent back to them saying that they have to login
and create a googlegroups account to do so. Only then my
approval will be requested. Isn't that a bit odd? Doesn't it
vanify the subcribe-by-mail model?
