[lug] Creating snapshot of Debian based distro

How would I create a snapshot of my current installation? Similar to
the style that when you install Debian or *buntu, that uses the gui and
accesses all of the packages from the disk. I would like to save the
snapshot so that I can install my setup onto other machines. I know I
could use partimage or something of the like, but then that would be
more specific to my machine.
