The error that gets thrown when things go wrong shows that
map.getInfoWindow().maskMapId is no longer the id of any HTML element in
the document. This causes a document.getElementById() call deep within
the API to return null, and the API routine that tries to modify that
HTML element to crash.

I don't know if map.getInfoWindow().maskMapId is being set incorrectly,
or if the HTML element that it should be pointing to is being
accidentally deleted somewhere else in the depths of the API code.

I don't think it's anything specific that you're doing wrong, it looks
more like a problem in the API code itself.
