I do a very similar thing with my zip code inquiry page:
http://maps.huge.info/zip.htm

I start out with a map showing the US, then when the map is clicked or
a zip code is entered, return polyline(s) outlining that zip code. I
use a post but a get can be used just as easily. Your call there.
