I agree with John about the 'yesterday' date
and having your sitemap URL of type 'text/xml'.
You might try, just in case, to see if it is better, to give
lastmod value as just the date, for example 2006-01-01
Maybe also try submitting the sitemap with a new name,
in case the error message is about
an older cached version of your sitemap.
